It's a lesson this driver learned the hard way: If you don't want to get stopped, avoid going faster than the police cruiser you're sharing the road with.

During routine patrol in Innisfil on April 16, a uniform traffic officer with the South Simcoe Police Service allegedly observed a speeding vehicle overtaking their patrol car. That vehicle, a BMW X3, was then pulled over.

An investigation revealed the 35-year-old Barrie driver had been prohibited from operating a vehicle following a 2022 criminal conviction. As a result of the traffic stop, the driver has been charged with speeding and operation of a conveyance while prohibited.

“Police remain committed to traffic safety and encourage all road users to obey all traffic regulations,” the department said in a media release.

This vehicle has been impounded for 45 days.

The driver was released from the scene with a court date in May.
