A pickup truck on fire in central Barrie was extinguished quickly by city firefighters Wednesday night.
“It’s undetermined why it caught fire,” said Assistant Deputy Fire Chief Eric MacFadden. “Crews were on the scene within six minutes and had water on the fire in under two minutes. The fire was knocked down quickly.
“But it was discovered that there was some gas leaking from the (truck’s gas) tank, so that just added to the flame growth," he said.
Barrie firefighters were called to Bryne Drive at 10:45 p.m. on Sept. 11.
There were no injuries from the blaze, MacFadden said, and damages have not been determined.
Barrie police were on scene and attempted to contact the owner of the vehicle, which had no driver present.
“There was no one at the scene when we arrived,” said Jennett Mays, a communications co-ordinator with city police.
Police said there have been no arrests or charges.
