No injuries were reported, but a fire this morning in Tiny Township caused significant damage to a large shed housing farming equipment.
Tiny firefighters were called to a property on Concession 14 East near Cedar Point Road just after 7 a.m. on Jan. 11 after receiving reports of a tractor on fire.
Roree Payment, the township's deputy fire chief, said the homeowner heard a loud bang coming from the large adjacent implement shed that housed a wide array of farming equipment, including the tractor.
“First arriving crews conducted an aggressive attack to extinguish the fire and minimize exposure to the other numerous pieces of equipment in the shed,” Payment said. “Upon our arrival, a second tractor had caught on fire.”
According to Payment, crews brought the fire under control quickly, but remained on scene for three hours “to overhaul the fire.”
In total, six firefighting apparatus and 20 firefighters were called to the scene.
Payment said the damage estimate is about $600,000 with an additional $1.25 million worth of equipment saved as a result of the department’s quick response.
“The fire is still under investigation, but is not considered suspicious,” Payment said.
