A record-breaking athlete from Bear Creek Secondary School, who won a pair of gold medals at OFSAA track and field this past June, was honoured by the Simcoe County District School Board on Wednesday night.

Dennis Iriowen, a Grade 10 student at the south-end Barrie high school, was presented with a trustee tribute from board chair Jodi Lloyd for his "outstanding accomplishments."

With the nickname 'The Streak from the Creek,' Iriowen began training with the high school's track team in Grade 9.

He went on to win every 100-metre and 200-metre race in his Grade 9 year, with victories at South Zone competitions, Georgian Bay Secondary School Association (GBSSA), the Central OFSAA regional event and, finally, at the provincial level during the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations track meet in London, Ont.

At OFSAA, Iriowen broke the record in both the 100- and 200-m races on his way to two gold medals. He ran a 21.67 in the 200-m and a 10.77 in the 100-m race.
