Bandits smash glass at south-Barrie shop, steal video games

Commercial break-in happened around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday on Mapleview Drive West near Marsellus Drive; thieves loaded plastic bins with games, police say

UPDATE: Power Up Gaming posted about the break-in on social media.

"It's with heavy hearts that we have to announce that we were broken into last night around 2 a.m.," said the post. "My wife and I haven't slept a wink and employees are hard at work doing inventory to determine the total value."

They also said the damage was "minimal."

"We appreciate that everyone is feeling financial restraints at this time. Small businesses have been feeling this pinch for a long time and situations like these do not help at all," read the post. "I completely dislike when someone feels the need to steal in order to post their own financial gains. As always, we will be working with the police, the public and anyone else to bring these two to justice."

Barrie police say thieves shattered the front door at a south-end business and then used large bins to steal video games early Tuesday morning.

Police say the break-in took place between 2:31 a.m. and 2:34 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26 in a plaza located on the north side of Mapleview Drive West, west of Marsellus Drive.

"Upon arrival at the scene, it was apparent that the business, which specializes in video games, gaming systems and accessories, had been entered by breaking the glass in the front door. Once inside a quantity of video games were stolen," police stated in a news release.

From surveillance video seized from the immediate area, police say one suspect entered the store and loaded large plastic bins with video games. The bins were then handed out to a second suspect who waited nearby in silver Honda Odyssey van, which police say was a newer model that had no plates.

The suspect who entered the store is described as a white male with a heavy build. He was wearing a grey hoodie with “Puma” in black lettering and a black Puma logo on the chest. He also had a red and black checkered bandana on his face and wore black gloves with white symbol on them, dark coloured track pants with a Champion logo on the left front pocket area, and grey hiking boots.

The male suspect who waited in the parking lot area near the van is described as having a heavy build and was wearing a black hoodie and black pants.
