Six people have been charged after Barrie police raided a north-end apartment Wednesday afternoon and seized a "large quantity" of suspected cocaine and fentanyl.

A loaded firearm was also seized during one of the arrests, police say.

The investigation was led by front-line officers with assistance from the Criminal Investigation Division, tactical support unit, canine unit and the community safety and well-being unit.

Police say two male suspects associated to this "proactive drug-trafficking investigation" were taken into custody as they attended a nearby plaza and a shopping mall on Bayfield Street.

"Both males were also found to be in possession of drugs at the time of their arrest and the male arrested at the plaza was in possession of a loaded handgun," police stated in a release.

Three males and three females are all facing drug-related possession and trafficking charges and have been held in custody for a bail hearing.
