Barrie fire crews put out a blaze involving a shed and a fence on Sophia St. E., near downtown, just after 3 a.m. on May 9. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

An early morning fire destroyed a shed near downtown Barrie, with the cause currently unknown.

At 3:20 a.m. on May 9, two fire trucks and a platoon chief responded to the call at a residence on Sophia Street East.

“When we arrived we found a shed and a fence on fire and was starting to get pretty close to a car,” Deputy Chief Carrie Clark told BarrieToday.

“It was very quickly brought under control and extinguished. We are working with Barrie police on origin, cause,” she added.

Reports online described a man being detained nearby by police.

“We did have a person in custody, however, through the course of investigation the person was released unconditionally,” Barrie police communications co-ordinator told BarrieToday.
