A large section of Highway 11 was closed north of Orillia following snow storms on the weekend.

With Highway 11 having reopened following snow storms on the weekend, crews are still working to clear secondary roads north of Orillia.

Six tractor-trailers remain stuck on secondary roads, resulting in a delay in snow removal and hydro restoration, Central Region OPP stated in a news release.

Houseys Rapids Road, Uffington Road, Southwood Road and Beiers Road are closed, as is the northbound ramp at Luigi Road.

“Although Highway 11 has reopened, the OPP reminds the public to slow down, stay alert and stay in control,” police say. “Plan your trip before leaving by visiting the Ministry of Transportation website for road conditions and closures at 511on.ca.”

Emergency crews and local residents continue to work together to provide food, water and supplies to those affected. Some people are being taken to local warming centres, and steps are being taken to deliver fuel to gas stations affected by the storms.

“Motorists who find themselves stranded on roads are encouraged to remain calm, stay in their vehicle and consider pooling vehicle resources until the OPP and other rescuers are able to reach their location,” police said.
