Wasaga man now charged with second-degree murder after victim dies

Charges against a Wasaga Beach man have been upgraded after the victim of an assault in February died this week.

On Feb. 25, emergency crews responded to a report of an unconscious person in critical condition on Homewood Avenue.

On March 6, a search warrant was executed at the home of the accused, who was arrested and faced 10 charges including aggravated assault. Weapons and cocaine were seized, according to police.

On Monday, the victim died, Huronia West OPP said in a news release.

On Wednesday, David Zamida, 46, was charged with second-degree murder, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order (six counts), unauthorized possession of a firearm (four counts), careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, possession of a prohibited device or ammunition (three counts), assault (two counts) and failure to comply with an undertaking.

The accused was held for a bail hearing that was scheduled to take place Thursday in Barrie.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.
