A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family of a young man who died when a boat sank near the mouth of Halifax harbour.
Max Hinch of Cole Harbour leaves behind a fiancée, Kimmie Robb, and a 4-year-old son, Jace.
Close friends have set up the Max Hinch Memorial Fund crowdfunding campaign to help them pay for the funeral and cover other upcoming expenses.
The deckhand was one of three people on MV Captain Jim as it returned to the harbour early Tuesday morning.
At around 2 a.m., the crew sent out a distress call, saying they had lost power and were taking on water.
According the RMI Marine, the company that owns the boat, the vessel went down so fast that only the captain and a passenger were able to make it into a life raft.
They were rescued by a Port of Halifax pilot boat.
An extensive search was launched to locate Hinch. Divers found his body late Tuesday morning in the sunken vessel.
"For everyone who knew him, we shall forever hold him in our hearts," wrote the fundraiser's creator, Emily Savoie."He was a wonderful and kind soul, and will be greatly missed by all."
Posted on the GoFundMe page are the following words Robb wrote for Hinch:
Thank you for showing me what love really is.
Thank you for loving me unconditionally.
Thank you for being my biggest supporter and pushing me to do my best.
Thank you for always putting Jace and I before you.
Thank you, for everything. My rock. My soul mate. The person who I chose for forever.
Thank you for choosing us and being the best father you possibly could. I promise Jace will always know who you are, he will know how much you loved him.
I miss you so very much. I will love you always, Max Hinch
