BarrieToday recently reached out to each candidate for city council in Barrie's 10 wards for a 300-word profile in their own words about their background and why people should vote for them.
**********************
I am very proud to proclaim that I was born and raised in Barrie, and along with my wife, Michele, choose to raise our family in Ward 8.
As a lifelong Barrie resident, I have an extensive history - as both a professional and citizen - of giving back to the community that has given so much to me and my family.
As a citizen my dedication to our community includes serving on local board of directors, advisory groups and volunteering.
Most recent examples include my contributions to Barrie Police Services which earned me the 2018 Chief of Police Award.
I am also a current member of the Seasons Centre for Grieving Children board and Simcoe Community Services Client Rights Advisory.
As a professional - I have worked with many of the city’s key partners on a variety of projects, ranging from expanding access to health care, telemedicine, designing and evaluating training programs, creating service partnerships, developing affordable housing, and bringing events to Barrie.
Ward 8 has issues that are unique and important to our residents. Recent examples include the proposed transit hub and waterfront stadium. Other key issues include: traffic management, city facilities and services, fair taxation, preserving our history, the local economy, affordable housing, and access to post-secondary education.
As your representative, I will work hard to ensure that Barrie remains one of the best places to live, work and play.
My approach will be guided by three key principles:
1. Honouring the Past: I believe investment in our historical landmarks and sites are investments in our future. I will work to protect and preserve our history.
2. Improving the Present: Simply put, we live in the present. I will work to improve the services, infrastructure and facilities that we rely on today.
3. Protecting the Future: For Barrie to remain one of the best cities in Canada to live I will ensure investments and decisions consider both the short and long-term benefits and consequences.
