BarrieToday recently reached out to each candidate for city council in Barrie's 10 wards for a 300-word profile in their own words about their background and why people should vote for them.
**********************
Born in Barrie in 1957. Grew up east-end Barrie; mom still has her home there. Went to Codrington Public School then Eastview.
Played soccer and hockey for Barrie. Won two all Ontario championships in hockey.
Married for 24 years raised two great boys, Chase and Cole.
Later on in my adult life I gave back to minor hockey. I started off as house league coach then conveyor then VP of house league ending up at president.
Spent 24 years as a investigator with the Ontario Racing Commission. After my son Chase died I no longer wanted to drive all over Ontario. Joined Woodbine Entertainment for seven years until they downsized will the change in racing from the government.
Went to work for Rescue 7 Inc., to sell defibrillators and to talk about Chase and his vision to place AEDs.
You might know the story of our son Chase who died at the age of 12 in 2006 while warming up to play volleyball at Prince of Wales. No defibrillator at that time in the school to save his life.
All schools in County of Simcoe have one. All arenas and community centres have one maybe two. The one our family donated to East Bayfield saved a gentleman's life after swimming.
Now I am the chair person with six board members for Chase McEachern AED Memorial Fund Inc. Raising funds so we can donated a AED to a Not For Profit group that needs but cannot ford one.
My other son Cole is attending his third year at Carleton University.
I live in Ward 7 for the last year and half. Moved here after our divorce. Ward 7 is one ward with growth opportunities. We must choice wisely for the future of Ward 7. I've seen changes for Barrie, some I agree with some I don’t. This is one reason I am putting my hat into this election. I am not part of any boys club.
I will answer your calls, in reasonable time represent ward 7 to the best of my ability.
