BarrieToday recently reached out to each candidate for city council in Barrie's 10 wards for a 300-word profile in their own words about their background and why people should vote for them.

Keenan Aylwin grew up in Barrie where he got his first taste of political activism fighting alongside the community to save Prince of Wales Public School and Barrie Central Collegiate from closure.

Keenan lives and works in Ward 2, in the heart of downtown Barrie. He is a community organizer and activist. Keenan’s family has owned and operated several small businesses in Ward 2 for well over a decade, giving him insight into the needs and wants of local businesses and the people who live here.

While studying political science at Queen’s University, Keenan worked as an urban farmer to help pay his way through school. He continues to promote local food through his involvement in FruitShare Barrie and the Urban Pantry in their work to expand community gardens in the city.

Barrie is growing and Ward 2 is the epicentre of change in the city. Keenan recognizes the need for leadership that is bold and inclusive so that no one is left behind in this time of rapid change.

As your full-time Ward 2 councillor, Keenan will always work to make decisions with you, not for you. Ward 2 deserves a councillor who will respond promptly to your concerns and who is 100% committed to our community. Keenan is excited to be your voice at Barrie City Hall.
