Lynn Dollin will be heading up Innisfil’s next town council as the new mayor, taking 4,654 votes on Tuesday night.
Dollin made a speech in the council chambers immediately after the results were announced.
“I just want to say thank you to all the candidates,” said Dollin. “I know how hard it can be put your heart and soul into this. It’s really hard work.”
Stan Daurio finished in second place with 2,963 votes and former mayor Barb Baguley was third with 1,406.
Dollin referenced some of the negative tactics used by candidates in other municipalities, and expressed gratitude that none of the negativity seeped into the Innisfil race.
“I want to thank Barb and Stan. Everybody just stayed on the platform and was very positive. Thank you so much. Thank you everyone,” Dollin said.
“Congratulations. All of you, successful or not, don’t give up. The municipality needs you.”
According to a news release, Dominion Voting Systems blamed a “colocation provider” for limiting bandwidth during online voting on Oct. 22 causing slowdowns and timeouts that brought voting to a standstill in 51 municipalities across Ontario.
The problem forced dozens of municipalities to extend voting by an hour or more, and caused a couple of others, including Innisfil to extend voting for a full 24 hours.
The first meeting of the new Innisfil town council takes place Dec. 5.
