BarrieToday recently reached out to each candidate for Barrie mayor for a 300-word profile in their own words about their background and why people should vote for them.
**********************
My name is Ram Faerber, and I am in it to win! Vote Ram Faerber for mayor of Barrie.
I have lived in Canada for 37 years and in that time I have developed a passion to help create change for the better, in our communities.
We have gone too many steps backward with the current Mayor Jeff Lehman; it will not be easy to move forward with him for another four years.
After obtaining my mechanical engineering technician certificate in Guyana, I moved to Canada and worked with Exco Technologies.
I moved to Barrie with my wife and four children.
I own a small recycling and carpet mats manufacturing business.
Just by filing my nomination papers to run, I have given the people a chance to exercise their democratic right to vote.
Please, vote for me, we cannot let the people’s voices go unheard any longer.
Council have just approved a 5.2% wage increase for city workers.
Just the Sunshine List sum of all salaries is $53,091,259.70, a $2,760,745.505 raise.
While the city debt is $303.3 million and it cost $28.3 million to service.
Municipal taxes skyrocketed 35% in 10 years while the city was experiencing tremendous growth.
If I become mayor, I will freeze property taxes, municipal water and sewer/waste water rates.
I will make sure council approve it for the people.
Why would industries come to a city that has nothing to offer?
A vacancy rate of 1.3% for housing, fourth highest to rent an apartment ,poor roads and other infrastructures, the highest unemployment rate, a shortage of skilled labour, a transit system that doesn’t work and a downtown that look as if we are filming a Walking Dead movie.
I know and understand the problems. We can fix it!
