Blue Mountain Resort opens summer attractions for limited number of guests

Guests may be asked to visit another day if the resort has already reached its daily capacity

As more outdoor activities open at Blue Mountain Resort, officials say the resort will be taking a managed-capacity approach to guest access.

“We will have capacity limits each day at the mountain and guests are encouraged to pre-purchase a pass to guarantee their access to the resort,” said Tara Lovell, public relations manager for Blue Mountain Resort, located just outside Collingwood.

As a COVID-19 safety measure, the resort will be capping daily capacity at the mountain, however, according to Lovell, the exact number of guests allowed in at one time will be fluid depending on what is open on the resort.

“Between the passes sold online and managing parking, we are taking a conservative approach this weekend while continuing to monitor the flow as we continue into summer,” she explained. “Guests may be asked to visit another day should we already be at our daily capacity on-resort.”

Today, Blue Mountain Resort will be opening a few more of its outdoor activities, including its open-air gondola, Mill Pond activity centre, Cascade putting course, Chutes and Lumber, and cross-country bike rentals.

“Guests can expect to see new signage, including our Personal Responsibility Code and directional signage to encourage physical distancing and the flow of guests around the resort,” Lovell said.

The resort’s Monterra Golf Club was opened at the end of May under new COVID-19 safety protocol.

The hiking trails were also opened in the first week of June, which also included the introduction of a new trail pass.

“We have launched two new passes — the Play All Day Pass, which provides access to multiple attractions on a specific day, and the Explore Pass, a summer season pass to the hiking trail network and the gondola — and have provided summer benefits to our 20/21 Ikon pass and 5x7 passes,” she explained.

On the mountain, the resort’s patrol team will be asking guests to present their passes similar to ski season when skiers and riders are asked to show their passes or tickets.

Lovell added guests visiting the resort for the day will be directed to park in the P2-parking lot only, at this time.

“There will be parking attendants who will help educate guests some of the new adaptations to the Blue Mountain experience. Season pass holders who would like to access the hiking trail network or the open-air gondola are asked to park at the Orchard parking lot or the North parking lot,” she said.

Blue Mountain Village will also see a number of restaurants open their patio for the season this weekend.

Guests are encouraged to call ahead before arriving to dine, and to abide by new directional signage that has been installed along the Village's walkways.

“We will continue to monitor and update our processes as we know this year has been one of many changes. We look forward to welcoming guests back to Blue with the safety and well-being of our guests, our team and our community as our priority,” Lovell said.
