CITY OF BARRIE
************************
As declared by the Province, and on the advice of the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU), the City of Barrie will move from the Yellow-Protect level to the Orange-Restrict level, effective at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 23, 2020.
The Orange level requires enhanced measures, restrictions and enforcement to avoid moving to the Red-Control level and full closures.
What does this mean for residents? The following limitation framework is in place as part of the Orange-Restrict level in Barrie. Please note the following is subject to additional input or further restrictions by the SMDHU.
- Local restaurants and bars must follow these additional restrictions, in addition to existing restrictions:
- 50 person indoor seated capacity limit
- Must close at 10 p.m. and liquor sold/served only between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
- Patrons must be screened
- Limit of four people seated together
- Barrie Recreation/Community Centres, as well as local sports teams, must now implement these additional restrictions, in addition to existing restrictions:
- Screening of members of the public
- No spectators (except for parent/guardian supervision of children)
- Limit of stay to 90 minutes except if engaging in sport
- Limit volume of music to conversation level to prevent shouting
- Meeting/event spaces must implement these additional restrictions, in addition to existing restrictions:
- Maximum of 50 people per facility
- Limit of four people seated together
- Retail stores must implement these additional restrictions, in addition to existing restrictions:
- Screening of patrons at mall entrances
- Limit capacity in stores and malls
Residents are reminded that previous general health and safety measures remain in effect for Barrie:
- Gatherings limited to 10 indoors and 25 outdoors, but the Health Unit strongly advises that people only have close contact with their direct household at this time.
- Workplace screening must take place.
- Face coverings are required in all indoor public spaces, at workplaces, and recommended in places when physical distancing is not possible.
- Restrict non-essential travel and think carefully about how often you go out and what outings are essential.
- Monitor for symptoms and stay home if you are sick. If you have COVID-19 symptoms, get tested.
See the province's COVID-19 Response Framework for a full list of measures. Visit the Health Unit’s website for detailed and up-to-date information and steps you should take to stay safe during the pandemic.
