SIMCOE COUNTY – Protecting the health and well-being of all Ontarian's is our government’s number one priority. It is vital that we take decisive action to support the most vulnerable in our communities, including people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless during this unprecedented time. They depend on local services and provide them with the supports they need.
We are investing $148 million in immediate funding to ensure it reaches communities as soon as possible. This includes $2,440,500 for Simcoe County. This investment will allow communities to expand their services, including homeless shelters, based on local need, so they can better respond to this emergency situation.
“This funding can be used by Simcoe County to help find ways for people to self-isolate such as using motels and hotels, hiring extra staff for shelters and buying protective equipment,” said Doug Downey, MPP for Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte. “This funding is critical to help us protect our most vulnerable throughout this crisis.”
We are providing $148 million to local service managers and Indigenous program administrators all across Ontario to give them flexibility to expand the key services they already offer to meet their local needs. For example, this funding could be used for emergency loans for people having a hard time paying rent. It is up to communities to respond to local needs.
