Two new outbreaks in schools are being reported by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit this afternoon.

Banting Memorial High School in Alliston has been in outbreak since Dec. 3. The school currently has three active cases, and two classrooms are closed. The school previously had one case reported on Nov 3, but that case has since recovered.

Nantyr Shores Secondary School in Innisfil was also listed in outbreak on Dec. 3, but currently only has one case listed which was posted on Nov. 25 and no classrooms are closed. Previously, the school had one case posted on Oct. 25 and one case on Nov. 9, however those two cases have since recovered.

An outbreak at a school is defined by the local health unit as two or more lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in students and/or staff (or other visitors) with an epidemiological link (i.e. shared space or objects with each other), within a 14-day period, where at least one case could have contracted COVID-19 in the school (including transportation and before/after school care).

The schools all remain open.

The school boards and the health unit have not reported whether the individuals are students or staff members.
