MIKA, Elizabeth

Ela passed away unexpectedly on November 9th, 2024, with family by her side, in her favorite place of Myrtle Beach, SC. She was 59 years old, and only one day shy of her 60th birthday.

Beloved wife of Martin Mika for 38 years (together for 44 years), they stood by each other's side hand in hand until her very last moments. Their love story was nothing short of a fairytale, which they shared with their three children Alicia Kenney (Jay), Patricia Marra (Luca), and Anthony Mika (Jeni Ball). The highlights of her day were facetimes shared with her beloved grandchildren Vincenzo, Penelope, Marigold, Lincoln and Brewer, which were her entire world.

Ela battled cancer for over three years, but never gave up fighting in order to share one more day with her friends and family. As a woman of many talents, she spent much of her younger days working on crafts (ceramics, stained glass, woodworking) or something artistic to enjoy her time. Recently she never left the house without her knitting. Her other favorite pastime was having long chats with those closest to her, usually over facetime. You all were the light she needed each day.

She was a shining example of strength, understanding and unconditional love

A special thank you to the team at the RVH Cancer clinic (Dr. Yu), staff at the McLeod Seacoast Hospital, Dr. DaSilva and the team at Protea Medical Centre, Dr. DeBoer, Dr. Queenan, and the homecare nurses of Bayshore Healthcare (Tanya and Mackayla) for all their time, patience and efforts.

Donations in honour of Ela may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home (30 Worsley St., Barrie) on Thursday, November 21st, 2024 from 2pm - 4pm and 6pm - 9pm. Prayers will be scheduled during the evening visitation. Funeral Mass to be held at St. Mary's Parish (65 Amelia St., Barrie) on Friday, November 22nd at 10am.
