Chivalry is alive and well in Barrie.

On Sunday afternoon, I had the misfortune to have my car break down in the Metro parking lot on Bayfield Street.

Over the next few hours, several people tried to help following instructions from the Roadside help line. Nothing worked and as the time went by, it got dark and wet. CAA came, but because we couldn't get the car in gear, he called for a different tow truck.

I spent about five hours, but there was one lady who went over and above kindness. She stayed with me until a tow truck finally took my car away. Allison Penna was so kind and we were able to stay in a car and keep warm.

Metro staff were very helpful and allowed us to go into the store.

Of course, how does one say "thank you" to so many kind people who did all they could?

I should mention that even my cellphone did not work! The problem? The fuse panel crashed leaving me helpless.

I am so proud of the Barrie citizens, the young to the elderly, very elderly.

Mary MacDonald
