LETTER: Surely there's somewhere else to put sports field

The following letter is in response to the controversial youth field sports approved for Barrie's south shore.

It would appear that there is ever-growing resentment of council’s proposed sports complex on the Barrie waterfront.

Can the Sea Cadets need for a “parade ground” not be accommodated on the Southshore Centre parking lot?  The one immediately in front measures 70-by-35 metres and the one immediately west of the entrance road an additional 110-by-35 metres.

Surely a portion of this could be set aside for the Sea Cadets when needed.

If that is not sufficient, then extend the parking lot farther west.

As for the sports field, why not convert a city-owned facility, already in place with parking and amenities, to an all-weather turf field? Then the naturalized area can be left for the quiet enjoyment of man, insect and beast. Such a solution would keep everybody happy, to the credit of city council.
