The Ontario Barrel Racing Association's Wild Runs of Summer is coming to the Barrie area next weekend, marking the first time in a long time for the event to be held locally.
Hosted by Essa Speed Horse Club, the event takes place July 26-28 at the Essa Agriplex, which is located south of Barrie, near Thornton, at 7505 10th Line in Essa Township. Spectators are welcome and admission is free.
Gates open for exhibitors at noon, but there is no stabling on the grass. Stalls must be booked by July 19 at a cost of $50 for the weekend. Visit www.obra.ca to enter and for stalling details.
More than $5,000 in prize money is up for grabs. Membership is required for year-end awards, but permits available for non-members to run for some money.
The show starts Friday, July 26 at 6:30 pm with jackpot races. The event continues on Saturday, July 27 at 9:30 a.m. and then Sunday, July 28 at 9 a.m. The Essa Speed Horse Club will host a pancake breakfast on Saturday from 7:30-9 a.m.
A raffle will also be offered on site until draw time with over $2,500 in prizes. Tickets are $10. The draw takes place Saturday.
