Angela Odusanya, an Ontario certified teacher and registered early childhood educator with the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, is launching her second children’s book, Amelia’s Loose Part Art: A Day at the Beach, through a Kickstarter campaign running from Sept. 24 to Oct. 24, 2024.

The campaign aims to raise $8,000 to bring the book to life, with a planned release in March 2025.

Following the success of her debut book, Amelia’s Loose Part Art, Odusanya continues to inspire children’s creativity, problem solving, and resourcefulness using the concept of ‘loose parts.’ Loose parts are everyday materials, such as sticks, shells, sand, and water, that children can manipulate and redesign.

These open-ended resources promote imaginative thinking, collaboration, and hands-on exploration, essential for building critical problem-solving skills.

In Amelia’s Loose Part Art: A Day at the Beach, Amelia discovers how loose parts can not only be used to create art but also solve real-life problems, such as helping animals in need. The story encourages children to think critically and find solutions using resources in their environment — skills that directly impact academic success and life skills development.

“Loose parts allow children to discover that solutions are all around them,” Odusanya shares. “My goal is to empower children to trust their own ideas and see possibilities in their everyday surroundings.”

Odusanya’s Kickstarter campaign offers backers the chance to support the project by selecting a reward tier, which allows them to pre-order the book and additional items, including exclusive swag like die-cut stickers and cover embellishments. With this unique pre-order model, backers play an essential role in bringing the project to completion.

Odusanya’s first book garnered praise from parents and educators for its ability to foster creativity and independent thinking in children aged three to eight. The new book takes Amelia’s adventures to the next level by highlighting how loose parts can be used to solve problems and encouraging empathy for others.
