Up-and-coming author Shannon Frances Smith is excited to announce the release of her new novel, Whispers of the Abyss.
The story is Lovecraftian-style cosmic horror with elements of romance. It follows a young woman, Abigale, who finds a strange book in a shop she inherited from her uncle. Grief-stricken from her uncle’s passing, with unresolved trauma from the past, Abigale is propositioned by an entity of great power. This being, the embodiment of the abyss, employs sweet, honied words, promising answers to an old family secret if she agrees to perform sanguine rites of questionable ethics required.
“Stare into the eyes of the abyss, and they shall stare back at you. Leap into the abyss and they shall catch you. Embrace the abyss and they shall carry you. Open your heart to the abyss and you shall become one with them.”
A tale not for the faint of heart, willing to explore the darker sides of humanity and the enigmatic nature of what is beyond the veil, and outside our comprehension of the world as we know it.
Shannon Frances Smith is a neurodivergent, local author raised in Barrie. She attended school at Georgian College and later got a degree from Trent University in Peterborough. While writing had been a hobby for a large chunk of her life, she has focused on earning a living at it since being let go from her job during the pandemic.
When this was written, she had another book, Champion of Seasons, published on Amazon, as well as four short stories in various anthologies, including Cost of Human Life in After Dinner Conversation. She founded Space Whale Dreams, the business arm of her creative ventures.
