Family Fright Fest returns for another spooky, ghoulish year

Free city event will take place Oct. 26 at Lampman Lane Park and Community Centre, including haunted house and costume contest

The City of Barrie is inviting residents to celebrate the Halloween season at the fourth annual Family Fright Fest.

The free event is on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, from 3 to 9 p.m., at Lampman Lane Park and Community Centre, located at 59 Lampman Lane.

The event will feature indoor and outdoor activities for Halloween fans of all ages. A vendor market, food trucks and treats will be available for a charge.

“Family Fright Fest is fun for the whole family! Join us for Halloween-themed attractions including a haunted house, costume contest, scary story time, and live performances. Celebrate the season and create some wonderful Halloween memories,” said Kate Ellis, manager of recreation and culture programs and special events.

Family Fright Fest activities will include:

  • Haunted house
  • Inflatables and games provided by Moonwalk Entertainment
  • Scary story time provided by the Barrie Public Library
  • Craft Corner provided by Bradford Greenhouses
  • Live performances
  • Dance party with DJ Delta Juliet
  • Costumed characters
  • Costume contest
  • Barrie police, fire and paramedic vehicles
  • Interactive photo booth
  • Fire pit

All activities are free and suitable for all ages. Parents/guardians are asked to use personal discretion when deciding to participate in Family Fright Fest. Although geared toward a family audience, some activities may be too scary for some participants. Registration to Family Fright Fest is not required. 

Please note the below hours are catered to the following audiences:

  • 3 – 4 p.m.: Sensory-friendly for those who prefer a quieter and less scary experience (nothing will be animated, no scary costumes, and the lights will be on)
  • 8 – 9 p.m.: Recommended for ages 10-plus

The city is once again selling Halloween swim/skate passes at 50 cents per pass, good for one free drop-in swim or skate for children 14 and under. Passes are currently available for purchase until Oct. 31 (or while quantities last) at Allandale Recreation Centre, East Bayfield Community Centre, Peggy Hill Team Community Centre, City Hall and Parkview Community Centre.
