Organizers of Barrie’s largest festival have announced their headliner concert series for this year’s annual Kempenfest — which takes place Aug. 4 to 7, 2023 at Barrie’s waterfront.

The announcement coincided with the festival being named to the exclusive Ontario Top 100 list published by the Festivals and Events Ontario (FEO) organization at their recent annual conference in Niagara Falls.

Kempenfest’s marketing director, Tom Aikins, shares this year’s philosophy on music.

“One of our objectives this year was to keep the music ‘fresh,’ meaning new bands that have not performed at Kempenfest in the past. The application deadline closed March 1 with over 350 live performance applications. Our community is overflowing with great talent.”

This year’s headlining concerts will include performances by:

  • Finger Eleven, Vilivant, Falset, and Fortunate Losers — Friday, Aug. 4
  • Tom Cochrane, Harm & Ease, Bigfoots Hand, and Lyric Dubee — Saturday, Aug. 5
  • Jade Eagleson, Cory James Mitchell, Dayna Reid, and Mackenzie Leigh Meyer — Sunday, Aug. 6
  • Brian Neale’s Northern Harbour’s Margaritaville Party — Monday, Aug. 7

Limited early-bird tickets for evening concerts are available now at kempenfest.com.

Kempenfest 2023 has two stages — the OLG Main Stage in the Rotary Beer Gardens, and the Kool FM Family Stage in the Youth Village, with over 60 hours of live programming between them.

Kempenfest’s marketing committee chair, Ashlea Growcott (who represents the Barrie Art Club on the Kempenfest organizing committee), was on hand in Niagara Falls to accept the FEO Top 100 award.

“We are truly honoured to be named to such an exclusive list of festivals and events. To be recognized by our peers in the industry, for our hard work in producing such a large event, is both humbling and motivating for us to improve the festival even more.”
