Nothing says Georgian Bay or its rich history like vintage boats.
So with that in mind, the Huronia Museum in Midland is excited to again be presenting its second annual Heritage Boat Show and fish fry Saturday.
Slated to run from 1 to 6 p.m., the heritage event features a range of activities and will give boat enthusiasts a chance to discover some popular models that once cut the waves of the bay.
“It’s a fundraiser for the museum and Georgian Bay Heritage League,” museum executive director Nahanni Born tells Village Media, adding they don’t have a firm fundraising target for the funds that will help preserve local heritage.
“We’ll take what we can get.”
Admission is free for the Heritage Boat Show, which will also feature vendors, a chance to learn more about the Canadian Museum of Water and enjoy some fun activities as well as a possible visit from Perchie, a happy go-lucky, giant fish mascot.
Born says Georgian Bay Heritage members will have a stunning collection of heritage boats on hand, including one from the Atlantic Challenge as well as older models manufactured by Grew and Watts that were first used when people started “enjoying rather than just surviving” being on Georgian Bay.
“We’ve got the great old boats; old restored wooden Georgian Bay Boats,” Born says. “Grew is also locally built, which is kind of neat.”
As well, the organization’s famous Museum Man will make a return appearance, which Born jokingly likened to a “local hero’s return.”
She adds: “We’ll also be unveiling a really cool piece of marine heritage."
There’s also a fish fry from 1-4 p.m. for $30 (including tax) that luckily for him doesn’t involve the beloved Perchie.
As well, there’s live music so attendees will be able to groove to some tunes by the Red Hot Stove Pipe.
