Legendary Canadian singer-songwriter Murray McLauchlan is making his return to Orillia in December.

The musician behind such tunes as Farmer’s Song, Down by the Henry Moore, Whispering Rain and Sweeping the Spotlight Away will be at the Orillia Opera House on Dec. 1.

McLauchlan has released 20 albums and won 11 Juno Awards during his 50-year career. He toured for years with Lunch at Allen’s, which also included Ian Thomas, Marc Jordan and Cindy Church, but since releasing the album Hourglass, he’s back to solo shows.

“As a songwriter, I know that it’s not enough to sit in your kitchen and write. Your songs need to be heard,” McLauchlan said in a news release. “Music is a communicative art, and if it isn’t brought in front of people, there is no way to tell if that end has been met.”
