NEWS RELEASE
ROBYN RENNIE
********************
Transference is an exhibition of new work by Robyn Rennie that explores powerful memories of her relationship to the landscape of her youth.
Her experience of growing up in a rural environment, coupled with weekends in Muskoka, has left indelible images in her identity.
Profound vision loss has greatly affected Rennie’s approach to painting. She must now rely on the narrative of her memories to transfer past experiences to canvas.
In an art form that traditionally relies heavily on sight, Rennie uses bright colours and highly textured grounds to provide the media for imparting the visceral emotions evoked by her memories of place.
She also uses interference, iridescent and metallic paint to illustrate how ephemeral these feelings can be – as if the viewer is given a flash or glimpse her interior life.
Even the slightest shift in point of view can change what the viewer sees and experiences.
Transference will be at Peter Street Fine Arts Gallery (23 Peter St. S.) during the month of September. The opening reception is on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 1 to 3 p.m
