32 Barrie residents among 91 new COVID cases in the region Friday

Five local cases linked to close contact, five listed as community-acquired, two outbreak-related; Rest still under investigation

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 91 new COVID-19 cases and zero deaths in its latest update posted Nov. 256

The new cases reported in the region today are as follows:  

  • Collingwood (2): Two people between 45 and 64 years old. Transmission is still under investigation for both cases. 
  • Wasaga Beach (8): Three youth under 18 years old, two people between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, and two people between 45 and 64 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact transmission and the rest are still under investigation.
  • Barrie (32): Ten youth under 18 years old, eight people between 18 and 34 years old, seven people between 35 and 44 years old, four people between 45 and 64 years old, and three people between 65 and 79 years old. Five cases are linked to close contact, two are outbreak-related, and five are listed as community-acquired (no known link). The rest of the cases are still under investigation. 
  • Springwater (5): One youth under 18 years old, three people between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 35 and 44 years old. One case is linked to close contact, and two are listed as community-acquired (no known link).  
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (3): One youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. One case is listed as community-acquired (no known link) and the other two are still under investigation.  
  • Innisfil (3): One person between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. One case is linked to close contact, one is listed as community-acquired (no known link) and the other case is still under investigation.
  • Orillia (6): Three people between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person over 79 years old. One case is listed as community-acquired, one is linked to close contact, and three are still under investigation. 
  • Oro-Medonte (2): One youth under 18 years old and one person between 45 and 64 years old. One case is listed as community-acquired (no known link) and the other is linked to close contact. 
  • Ramara (2): One youth under 18 years old and one person between 18 and 34 years old. One case is listed as community-acquired (no known link) and one is still under investigation. 
  • Severn (3): Two people between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact and one is listed as community-acquired (no known link).
  • Midland (5): Three people between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. All five cases are still under investigation. 
  • Penetanguishene (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old whose case is still under investigation. 
  • Adjala-Tosorontio (6): Four youth under 18 years old, and two people between 18 and 34 years old. Two cases are outbreak-related, two are listed as community-acquired (no known link), and two are still under investigation. 
  • New Tecumseth (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old whose case is still under investigation. 
  • Muskoka District (12): Nine people from Huntsville, two people from Bracebridge, and one person from Gravenhurst. 

Included in the new cases reported today are 60 unvaccinated, five partially vaccinated, and 26 fully vaccinated people. 

There are currently 555 active cases in the region. 

Twenty-seven people from Simcoe County and two people from Muskoka District are hospitalized with COVID-19.

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 15,348 cases of COVID-19 with 14,515 of those cases recovered and 278 cases ending in death. 

More than 74 per cent of the population living in Simcoe-Muskoka (including children) have received both doses of vaccine and 77 per cent have had at least one dose of a vaccine.

Current school outbreaks in Simcoe County include: 

  • Monsignor Lee Catholic elementary school, Orillia, declared Nov. 24, two cases
  • Hewitt's Creek Public School, Barrie, declared Nov. 22, five cases
  • Tosorontio Central Public School, Everett, declared Nov. 22, 10 cases
  • ESC Nouvelle Alliance (secondary school), Barrie, declared Nov. 19, two cases. 
  • ES Le Caron secondary school, Penetanguishene, declared Nov. 19, seven cases
  • Forest Hill Public School, Midhurst, declared Nov. 19, five cases
  • St. Ann's elementary school, Penetanguishene, declared Nov. 19, two cases
  • West Bayfield Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 18, seven cases
  • Trillium Woods Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 18, five cases
  • Severn Shores Public School, Cumberland Beach, declared Nov. 18, seven cases 
  • Emma King Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 17, nine cases
  • Maple Grove Public School, Barrie, declared Nov. 16, 12 cases
  • St. Marie of the Incarnation, Bradford, declared Nov. 15, six cases
  • Monsignor Clair Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 15, five cases
  • W.C. Little Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 12, 10 cases
  • Terry Fox Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 10, eight cases
  • St. Catherine of Siena Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 1, 11 cases

An outbreak previously declared Nottawa Elementary School in Clearview Township is now over. There were three cases associated with the outbreak.

Other ongoing outbreaks reported in Simcoe County include: 

  • Mapleview Community Church, Barrie, declared Nov. 4, 29 local cases (with more cases in people who live outside the region)
  • Unnamed shelter in Simcoe County, declared Nov. 19, nine cases
  • Unnamed shelter in Simcoe County, declared Nov. 1, 26 cases
  • Unnamed shelter in Simcoe County, declared Nov. 8, seven cases.
