These boys are being commended for their actions Halloween night, when they found a cell phone while out trick-or-treating.

Kids these days.

Turns out, there are quite a few good ones. An anonymous post on the Facebook group Alcona Chats has shown the best side of four teenage boys who were out trick-or-treating Halloween night.

The writer of the post explained that their wife had left her cellphone outside while preparing a bowl of candy. Soon after they left the property, and only realized the device was lost when they got home later in the evening. The phone was tracked and found sandwiched between pillows on a chair on the front porch.

"Curious as to who put it under the pillow after finding it, I decided to check my cameras," the writer said. "What I found was these four truly unbelievable boys."

The more than four-minute video is shot from the front porch around 7:45 p.m. It shows the boys taking some candy from the bowl and walking away before one, dressed as Batman, turns around from the lawn and walks up to the door to ring the bell. He then begins to wave his hand at the camera and point.

They wait a few minutes before taking the phone, holding it up to the camera, and then placing it on a pillow on a chair before covering it with another pillow and walking away.

The post has generated more than 170 comments and over 1,500 like, love or care reactions.

Oliver Goncalves, who appeared in the video and was dressed in Toronto Raptors gear for the night, says the quartet was just trying to do the right thing.

"It was just one part of the night," he said. "It kind of just happened. Together as a group we made the decision to put it there. We tried to knock on the door and ring the doorbell because it's an important thing. You never know what's going to happen. I would just do the best thing every time and see what happens after that."

All four boys — Goncalves, Alex Caruana (dressed in a suit and warm jacket), Manuel Avila (impersonating comedian Adam Sandler) and Mateus Alves (Batman) — live in Alcona and they've been good friends for years. They currently attend Grade 9 at St. Peter's Catholic Secondary School in Barrie.

Cindy Avila, Manuel's mother, wrote: "I am not only proud of him but also his friends. They are an amazing bunch."

Goncalves' father, Rui Carrasqueiro, expressed similar sentiment.

"You know they're good boys, but to see them act that way without anybody around, that's pretty good," he said. "They didn't tell anybody. I only found out because I'm on Facebook. I recognized him right away and said 'why is there a video of my kid on Facebook on somebody else's page?' I just kept watching to see what happened. If it wasn't for the video I probably never would have found out. There's no secret (to parenting), I guess. You just try to show them the right way."
