This fall, flannel shirts and beards everywhere can rejoice - the second annual Axe Cancer event is coming to Barrie.

Hosted by Camp Quality Canada, Axe Cancer takes place in eight cities simultaneously across Canada on Oct. 6, 2019. Participants will gather for axe throwing tournaments to raise funds and awareness for Camp Quality Cancer.

Camp Quality Canada is a non-profit charitable organization with the mission to strive to improve the quality of life for children living with cancer through camps and year-round family support programs. Through their 500-strong volunteer network and a dedicated administrative team, CQC provides fun, safe and positive experiences with 1-1 ratios and medical care teams on-site allowing kids aged 7-18 to participate in activities like archery, fishing, arts and crafts and canoeing.

In 2018, $11,600 from the Toronto event alone was raised towards sending children to CQC’s overnight camps. Every bullseye helps get CQC closer to their target of sending every child with cancer to camp.

“Nobody wants to hear that their child is diagnosed with cancer. For the patient, it can be a frightening and lonely time. That’s why we offer free camp - to give kids the power to turn life’s challenges into adventures. We also offer support programming for parents and family, since we know the strain cancer can cause on the whole community. Axe Cancer is an integral part of this mission – there’s real impact from the money raised because we use it to send children to camp, where we help create happy, safe and impactful experiences for them,” said Jarvis Strong, Executive Director of Camp Quality Canada.
