BEERTOWN PUBLIC HOUSE

Beertown Public House, which has a Barrie location on Fairview Road, is proud to launch their newest Collaboration Nation brew — Deliria.
For the first time ever, Beertown took their Collaboration Nation Series to Europe and teamed up with Huyghe Brewery, McClelland Premium Imports and 15 women in beer — including Jennifer Tamse, director of beer and beverage at Charcoal Group of Restaurants, the parent company of Beertown Public House — to brew the Belgian Strong Ale.
“Brew day itself was incredibly magical,” says Tamse. “We participated in every step of the process — milling the grains, mashing in, opening cans of hop extract, adding hops to the boil, grounding up coriander, cleaning the filters and participating in more cleaning.
"To collaborate on this beer with 15 other talented women was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
This limited-edition brew is brewed annually each March at Huyghe Brewery (the makers of Delirium Tremens) in Melle, Belgium, to pay tribute to women in beer. The brewery welcomed 16 different women in beer from across the globe to exclusively collaborate on the beer, brew it, discuss its place in the market and ultimately push for further diversity and inclusion in beer.
Tamse was the only representative to be selected from Canada in 2024.
“This uniqueness of this collaboration and its importance within the global beer market should not be understated,” says Tamse. “Deliria has brought together some of the best women in the industry — highlighting their unique skill sets, and passion for beer. Even more importantly, brewing Deliria has created a platform to shed light on the work we collectively need to do when it comes to the challenges that women face in beer.”
Deliria is best described as Delirium Tremens’ bigger (perhaps more enlightened) sister.
It features a very different malt bill, which is comprised of Pilsner malt, corn, rice, oats and a whole lotta sugar. While the hop profile is similar (props to that classic Styrian Golding, Saaz and Spalter Select combo), coriander seeds were added for that iconic touch of Belgian spice. The result is a slightly lighter-bodied (yet still full) Belgian Blonde Strong Ale with a fruity/floral aroma boasting notes of apple, chardonnay grapes and a touch of spice.
As one of the largest purchasers of Belgian beer in Canada, Beertown Public House has become a leader in introducing guests to the Belgian beer culture and is often the first to sample and bring new Belgian beers to the Canadian market. The launch of Deliria is a first for Ontarians, and for Beertown. With fewer than 300 kegs available worldwide, this is a rare opportunity to try this historical beer.
