Barrie Fire responded to a kitchen fire at noon today, and is taking the opportunity to remind homeowners to make sure you have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

The fire department responded to a 911 call shortly after noon today with four trucks and 16 firefighters. There was smoke damage throughout, but firefighters managed to quench the flames quickly.

The home owners were alerted to the fire thanks to working smoke alarms. Four people were inside the home at the time and did try to extinguish the blaze. However they were unsuccessful and evacuated the home before calling 911.

There were no injuries.

"Barrie Fire would like to remind everyone that only working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms will alert you to a fire and to remain alert in the kitchen when you are cooking," stated Assistant Deputy Chief Carrie Clark in an email to BarrieToday.
