The Women and Children’s Shelter of Barrie is proud to announce the launch of its Shelter Me Capital Campaign with a bold goal of raising $1 million.

This pivotal initiative is dedicated to providing transitional homes specifically designed to support women and children who have courageously escaped abusive situations.

The ongoing housing crisis has intensified the challenges faced by survivors as they work to rebuild their lives. Many find themselves without a safe place to call home, which significantly hampers their healing process and reintegration into society. The Shelter Me Capital Campaign seeks to address this urgent need by offering secure, supportive environments that foster recovery and independence.

“We are excited to launch this campaign, which represents a crucial step in our mission to provide safety and stability for women and children in crisis,” said Teresa MacLennan, executive director of The Women and Children’s Shelter of Barrie. “With your support, we can make a real and lasting impact on the lives of those who need it most.”

The funds raised through this campaign will directly support the acquisition of a four-bedroom home, the construction of an additional residential building with four two-bedroom units, as well as essential expenses such as landscaping, appliances, furnishings, housewares, groceries and other necessities to prepare these units for occupancy.

This investment will benefit over 3,500 women and children annually, offering them access to shelter supports, outreach services, counselling, family court support, transitional housing, and crucial community referrals.

“The Shelter Me Campaign is not just about providing a place to stay — it’s about giving individuals and families a chance to heal and build a new life,” added Danielle Parks-Hamer, community development manager. “Together, we can make a profound difference and offer these brave survivors a secure and hopeful path forward.”
