On Friday, the Ontario government announced it has allocated 2,983 safe, modern long-term care spaces to be built through 29 projects across the province.
The IOOF Seniors Home Inc. in Barrie will receiving an allocation as part of that announcement to develop 64 new spaces and to upgrade 66 existing spaces.
“Today’s announcement is much-needed news for our community,” said Barrie-Innisfil MPP Andrea Khanjin.“However, it is not just about the quantity of beds, it is about the quality of care for our seniors. This project will help reduce the wait-list while improving the quality of care and quality of life of our seniors.”
This project will involve a significant addition to the building on Brooks Street and renovations to the existing long-term care home.
The home will also offer services to Francophone residents.
“The awarding of new beds, and redevelopment of existing long-term care beds will ensure that the IOOF will continue to be a vital partner in the delivery of much needed long-term care services,” said Garry Hopkins, chief executive officer of the IOOF.
Of the 29 announced projects across the province, 23 involve the construction of brand new buildings and 19 involve campuses of care where multiple services are provided on the same site. Ontario is investing $1.75 billion to create 30,000 beds over ten years.
