Light displays, lots of fireworks, family activities and public art are all part of Barrie's plan to celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary.

City councillors will consider a motion Monday for the Canada 150 Festival.

Onalee Groves of Invest Barrie will make a presentation on behalf of the Canada 150 Committee which is comprised councillors Andrew Price and Rose Romita, Chamber of Commerce CEO Rod Jackson, city staff and a variety of community stakeholders including representatives from the RVH Foundation and Burl's Creek/Republic Live.

The proposed theme for the celebration is 'Illuminate Barrie' and will be a two-day fireworks and cultural festival featuring live music performances, interactive displays, a heritage village and makers market.

The idea is to move Celebrate Barrie from the first weekend in June to Labour Day Weekend.

Celebrate Barrie's usual location is under construction due to the waterfront re-development and organizers say Labour Day is normally not programmed with any events.
