Boxing Day was a huge success for anyone looking for deals and for stores looking to get rid of inventory.
Always one of the biggest shopping days of the year, Boxing Day can sometimes be a chaotic experience for some.
Chad Reitman was shopping with his wife at Georgian Mall on Wednesday morning and had already hit a couple electronic stores, but says he takes the busy day in stride.
“No need to get stressed out; just grab a coffee and take your time,” the 47-year-old told BarrieToday. “We like to get the deals on whatever we can as we celebrate another Christmas with other family on the weekend. Saves some money, that’s for sure.”
The south end of Barrie was congested as usual, but a little bit more with everyone scrambling to get deals.
Best Buy general manager Donnie Barlow had the doors open to the Park Place electronics store at 6 a.m. and said the line-up was stretched down past the next store’s doors.
“The line-up was all the way past Golf Town and then some,” he said. “We’re at full staff and still a bit backed up, but so far there haven’t been any complaints. People seem pretty understanding, being that is it is Boxing Day.”
Boxing Day sales usually see a price decrease in bigger items, such as electronics and furniture, which makes Best Buy a go-to whenever the sales are big.
“We had the LG 75 Smart TV, which was on for basically half price and that was flying out the door,” said Barlow. “A lot of the 43-inch TVs have been selling pretty good, too.
"It has been a really successful day with the sales and trying to get rid of all that we had marked down," he added. "Lots of video games and consoles have been sold, too, which is expected every year.”
For those who missed out on today’s big event, most stores will continue their sales for the rest of the week.
