Bradford barn fire reduces Yonge to one lane (5 photos)

All Bradford units were deployed and mutual aid assistance was called in from Innisfil, who provided a pumper and a tanker

The deputy fire chief for Bradford West Gwilimbury says firefighters quickly extinguished a barn structure fire this evening — once they were able to gain access.

Deputy chief Olaf Lamerz said the fire — which occurred on a vacant lot near Bradford — was controlled quickly.

"It looks like it has been vacant a little while," said Lamerz at the scene.

All Bradford units were deployed and mutual aid assistance was called in from Innisfil, who provided a pumper and a tanker.

"We emptied out the hall here," said Lamerz.

Yonge Street was reduced to one lane at Line 12 near Bradford as all units were deployed, most parked at the side of the road — unable to all access the narrow farm driveway.

Both lanes of traffic were reopened by about 7 p.m.

Lamerz said although there was open flame and smoke, the fire was fairly small, with no injuries to people, animals or firefighters and was not suspicious in nature.

"The crews got in pretty quick. It was boarded up, but once they gained access, they were able to extinguish what they saw pretty quickly," said Lamerz.
