BREAKING: Barrie man found guilty in double-murder of father, son

Dyrrin Daley guilty of two counts of second-degree murder in the 2017 stabbing deaths of Nickolas Pasowisty and his dad, James, in their Allandale apartment

A Barrie man has been found guilty of two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the 2017 stabbing deaths of a father and son in their Allandale apartment.

Justice Vanessa Christie announced her decision Monday afternoon after spending most of the day reading from her 182-page decision.

Dyrrin Daley, 28, stood trial in the spring charged with first- and second-degree murder in the killing of Nickolas Pasowisty, 19, and his dad, James Pasowisty, 51, on Feb. 8, 2017.

During the month-long trial, Daley said he went to the men’s Allandale duplex in the middle of that winter night to buy marijuana, figuring the younger Pasowisty was still up. But he said when inside there was an argument about money and Daley said the two men attacked him.

Daley testified that he pulled out pocket knife, having only enough time to extract one of the two blades, initially intending to scare off the men but then striking out when he feared they would toss him off the balcony.

He said he struck out randomly, stabbing each man more than 30 times.

The father and son were found dead a short while later after police received two silent 911 calls from inside the second-floor duplex.

Daley himself had a severe cut on his hand that required medical attention, self-inflicted when his hand slipped onto the blade of his pocket knife. He complained of other injuries as a result of the struggle.

The Crown accused Daley of being the aggressor, acting out in anger at the older Pasowisty, dismissing any notion of self defence. He said Daley slashed out, repeatedly stabbing the two unarmed men.

Daley knew the Pasowistys as a child when James had a relationship with Daley’s mom and they all lived together for about six months.

"Disgusting," Rose Beaton, the mother of the dead teenager, said abruptly while leaving the courtroom when the decision was announced.

Beaton is also the ex-wife of James Pasowisty, who was killed alongside Nickolas in 2017.
