Bruce Owen Memorial Concert to 'kick-start' return of live events

The Barrie Concert Association is excited to resume live events its first one will honour the organization's long-time artistic director

The Barrie Concert Association (BCA) announces a resumption of concerts (Barrie Concerts and Georgian Music).

The BCA board has been monitoring developments throughout COVID-19 and we believe current conditions permit the safe resumption of concerts starting in September. The resumption of concerts will respect any Public Health recommendations current at the time, interpreted with caution. Masking will be mandatory unless advised otherwise. The safety of our patrons and performers is paramount.

The last two and a half years have been difficult. The BCA hit an all-time low with the death of Bruce Owen, our artistic director. Bruce's passing occurred just as we hoped to resume concerts. Bruce left the city of Barrie with a wonderful legacy for the love of classical music. Resumption will be “kick-started” with a Bruce Owen Memorial Concert at 7 p.m. on Sept 10, 2022.

The concert will feature pianist Shen Cai playing Barber and Schubert, and Nurhan Arman’s Sinfonia Toronto performing Puccini and Dvorak. There will only be a brief pause between halves to move the piano, not an intermission. This concert will last 65-70 minutes.

Tickets for this concert will be $20 ($10 for students). A live-streaming option will also be offered for $20. The cost is being kept low to allow as many people as possible to attend. However, ticket sales will only cover about half of the cost of the concert.

Donations are welcome and receipts for income tax purposes will be issued for donations of $20 or more. We have the ability to accept e-transfers (check website for details). Donations may also be sent to BCA by mail (cheques payable to Barrie Concerts).
