It was a busy 12 hours for Barrie police as officers responded to 115 calls throughout the city as the calendar turned from 2018 to 2019.
From 6 p.m. Monday evening to 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, city police responded to 115 calls for service.
Corporate communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday while it was a steady night for officers, it wasn’t in the area of town where some of the biggest celebrations were happening.
“It was a rather busy evening and overnight with calls for service right across the city,” said Leon. “I think that the heavy rain likely had an impact on many outdoor plans that were likely changed due to the inclement weather.
"With regards to downtown activity, there were no notable calls for service, but there were two people arrested and charged with public intoxication," he added.
The majority of complaints police responded to were noise complaints, unwanted guests and 911 hang-ups, which ended up being line disconnects and pocket dials.
Despite New Year’s Eve being about celebration, there was only one impaired driving arrest in the city.
“There was one overnight arrest for impaired driving by a member of the Barrie Police Traffic Unit who observed a vehicle traffic travelling erratically near Veterans Drive and Essa Road just before midnight,” said Leon, adding a 26-year old Bradford man was arrested and charged with impaired driving-related offences.
