The spirit of patriotism is is causing a flag frenzy for a Barrie manufacturer.

Flags Unlimited on St. Vincent St. made about 200,000 Canada 150 flags and brisk sales started early in 2017.

"We've been selling these like hot cakes. Once the New Year hit. It's just been a fantastic response to such a cool year," said Andrea Cook, Marketing Coordinator for Flags Unlimited.

The company began making the flags last Fall, after applying for licensing and getting government approval.

Blue and white and the most popular colours.

Sizes range from a paper stick flag to 4" by 6", fabric stick flag, 6" by 10" to the standard and most popular 3' by 6' size for day to day residential or business flagpoles.

Custom orders can be made for monster size flags.

Flags Unlimited deals to North America and sells to almost every large retailer in Canada including Canadian Tire, Home Depot and Costco.

There have been some orders from vacationers stateside but mainly it's Canadians from coast to coast who want to display their pride.

"There's lots of people who are just proud to fly the Canadian flag. It has definitely pushed that for us this year a well," said Cook.

"As a company that's made Canadian flags all the time, May and June is ramping up for Canada Day. Everybody wants their flag looking good.  They want it off the top of their pole.  They've brought down their old ones. This is like a crazy time of year anyway and this has amplified for sure by events going across Canada."

The company can sum up Canuck pride by sales of the classic red and white Canadian flag in a word - double.

"It's double what we've done in the past. On our website we say we make one million Canadian flags a year so we've almost doubled that."

So in 2017, almost 2 million Canadian flags have been purchased from Flags Unlimited for the celebration.

"Throw in Canada 150  flags -  it's been a crazy year," laughs Cook.
