Riders of the Go Train to and from Barrie can expect to see some changes this week.

Metrolinx, which operates Go Transit, is temporarily replacing some off-peak train services with GO bus service on the Barrie line, according to the Go Transit website, which stated the temporary change is being made to make progress on maintenance work and future service expansion.

According to information on the Metrolinx website, the goal is to bring more frequent two-way, all-day service to the Barrie Line every 15 minutes to Bradford GO. That includes the addition of an extra track between Union Station and Aurora GO as a key part of the company’s GO expansion plans on the Barrie Line.

Starting April 8, the length of a few of the trains may be changed as well in order to use resources where they are needed most, according to information on the Metrolinx website.

On the Barrie line, the weekday train service will be replaced by a bus service outside the morning and afternoon peak periods.

  • Southbound: The last train trip of the day will depart Allandale Waterfront GO at 9:03 a.m.
  • Northbound: The first train trip of the day will depart Union Station at 1:53 p.m., and the last train trip of the day will depart Union Station at 6:53 p.m. The last northbound trip will be extended to serve Allandale Waterfront GO.

On weekends, most Barrie train services will be replaced by buses.
