The City of Barrie is inviting local artists as well as arts and culture organizations to apply to participate in this year’s Culture Days programming.
Culture Days is a national celebration of arts and culture taking place this year from Sept. 20 through Oct. 13, 2024. Culture Days programs inspire public participation in arts and culture through three weeks of free events, performances and activities offered in person, online and through self-guided exploration.
The city is inviting individuals, organizations and businesses to submit proposals for activities or events to help celebrate Culture Days across Barrie. The format can be in person or self-guided. Disciplines can include visual arts, dance, theatre, music, history and heritage, architecture and design, culinary arts, craft or storytelling.
Applications will receive additional consideration if they relate to Seeds to Sow, the city’s temporary exhibition of public art that will be hosted from Sept. 27 to Nov. 8, 2024. Seeds to Sow will feature six installations of public art that will change Barrie’s landscape. Artworks will respond to sites around the city, drawing on local ecologies, history, and stories.
On Sept. 30, Culture Days will create space exclusively for events organized to commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, including those sharing First Nations, Métis, and/or Inuit experiences and perspectives celebrating the creative and cultural expressions of Indigenous people and communities.
Submissions will be accepted until Monday, July 22, at 11:59 p.m.
