The City of Barrie invites residents to provide feedback on the future of the Sea Cadets Parade Ground and Multi-Use Sports Field as part of a broader vision for the revitalization of Barrie’s downtown and waterfront.

On Aug. 14, 2024, Marshall Green provided a report to Barrie city council, entitled The Southshore, Barrie Sports and a Revitalized Downtown. Mayor Alex Nuttall then issued a mayoral direction, to pause the implementation of Council Motion 24-G-111 to allow for public consultation.

Mr. Green’s report outlines several recommendations for Barrie’s waterfront and surrounding area, and city council is looking forward to hearing public feedback.

An in-person, drop-in consultation event is taking place on Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the General John Hayter Southshore Community Centre (205 Lakeshore Dr., Barrie). All members of the public are welcome to attend to provide feedback on the recommendations outlined in Mr. Green’s report.

Residents can also share their input through an online survey, which closes on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

All feedback collected during the consultation process will be presented to city council in a staff report on Oct. 9, 2024.

For more information and to complete the survey, visit buildingbarrie.ca/paradegroundsportsfield.
