The City of Barrie is inviting youth to participate in the Official Plan Project. Barrie is growing and, as Barrie’s youngest citizens, the youth voice is a key element to making Barrie a place people will want to work and live in for 20 or more years to come.

“We want to make sure the youth take part in the Official Plan Project and help to create a vision for our future,” explains Andrea Bourrie, Director of Planning & Building Services. “While there are many ways for everyone to share feedback in this project, we’ve created activities specifically for the residents of our future.”

Youth can get involved in the Official Plan Project at BuildingBarrie.ca/YouthOP or in person:

  • Map Your Barrie: Drop a pin on a map of Barrie to share what you like, what you don’t like and what’s missing in Barrie.
  • In a Snapshot: Compare photos of areas in Barrie now with images of how it could look in the future.
  • Youth Workbook: Available digitally and at the locations listed below, this workbook is a creative way to share ideas and help make Barrie a better place for them, their family and friends to live in for years to come:
  • Allandale Recreation Centre (190 Bayview Dr.)
  • City Hall — Service Barrie or the 1st floor brochure holders (70 Collier St.)
  • Barrie Public Library – Downtown (60 Worsley St.) and Painswick (48 Dean Ave.)
  • Barrie Transit – Downtown Terminal (24 Maple Ave.)
  • East Bayfield Community Centre (80 Livingstone Street E.)
  • Holly Community Centre (171 Mapleton Ave.)
