NEWS RELEASE

CITY OF BARRIE

On Thursday, Apr. 13 from 3 to 9 p.m. in the City Hall Rotunda, the City of Barrie and Downtown Barrie (BIA) will be holding auditions to select the 2017 Street Performers. The individuals selected will be hired by the City to perform on downtown streets this summer.

“This year, up to eight successful performers will be hired to work in the downtown core,” said Amanda Dyke, culture officer and coordinator of the Street Performer program. “These performers will share early evening shifts Tuesday through Saturday, as well as shifts on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons. We want those auditioning to be able to work a majority of these times.”

The Street Performers program was developed in 2009 as part of the downtown revitalization efforts. Each year, auditions take place through a juried process and those selected entertain the public with performances throughout the downtown streets in the summer.

Auditions are being booked now through the Department of Culture. Interested performers can sign up by calling 705-739-4299 or by emailing [email protected]. Auditions are to be between five and seven minutes in length and members of the community are welcome to drop in and enjoy the performances.
