Classic bagel, coffee shop and bar opens in city's east end

'The menu is going to be fun for those looking for variety,' says owner of Salty Blonde Bagel Bar, which hosted soft opening Wednesday night

Despite some delays, the east end’s newest establishment is officially open and ready to bring a new look to an old spot.

The Salty Blonde Bagel Bar and its Montreal- and New York-inspired menu hosted a soft opening Wednesday night where invited guests got to try out the new restaurant.

Located at the former site of Nino’s Italian Restaurant at 298 Blake St., the restaurant was a little delayed in opening.

Salty Blonde Bagel Bar co-owner Randy Feltis, who also owns The Farmhouse, explained how this opening was a little more difficult than others.

“I think just the timing, because of COVID and supply and demand right now," he told BarrieToday. "Our oven was supposed to take a day to come in and took two and half weeks. Our patio took a long time. Our wine glasses got stuck at the border. Just one thing after another.

"But here we are and we’re really excited," Feltis added.

The Salty Blonde Bagel Bar has a different look than the former establishment. It is bright with what Feltis called a 'cool vibe'. There are even cocktails and specialty coffees.

“The door would open about 10 times a day with people asking if we’re open yet. The community is excited and we can’t wait to have them all in here,” Feltis said. “The menu is going to be fun for those looking for variety.”

Espresso martinis, margaritas, wine, beer and other cocktails will help with the nighttime crowd, while espressos and coffees with lunch meals and of course, specialty boiled bagels will round out the menu, he said.
